In 1987, Sergio Toppi was commissioned to create a series of tarot cards. After some initial hesitation, he embraced the project and produced 56 illustrations depicting primitive humans. This was the first time he had drawn a long series on a single theme. This powerful and profoundly original work reveals the Milanese master's deep empathy for prehistoric people, while retaining—as befits the subject matter—an element of mystery and magic.
